CRU Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. The CRU falls under the USDOT’s Low Speed Vehicle (LSV) classification, making it federally approved for street use on roads with posted speed limits under 35 mph. Always confirm with your local dealer which vehicles are approved in your area.
The CRU is legal on most public roads with posted speed limits of 35 mph (56 kph), or in some states up to 45 mph (72 kph).
We frequently receive questions about Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) regulations across the country, especially for states with high golf cart and neighborhood driving usage. While requirements can vary by city or county, shoppers most often ask about the rules in:
To help you navigate the basics, we’ve included links to publicly available, high-level LSV guidelines for each state listed above. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, always refer to your state’s official Department of Transportation (DOT) or local motor vehicle agency.
In order to meet U.S. Federal Safety Standards (FMVSS 500), all LSVs require a registered VIN number. Once registered, the CRU can be driven legally with a valid driver's license on most roads with posted speed limits of 35 mph or less.
CRU has an onboard charger and is charged using a Club Car-supplied AC cord plugged into a 110V to 120V electrical outlet. No special car charging station or outlet is needed.
Range depends on your battery pack, load, and terrain, and can be as low as 25 or as high as 75 miles.
The Club Car CRU is equipped with 3-point seatbelts in the front for secure, full-body restraint, along with 2-point seatbelts in the rear to provide added protection for back-seat passengers. An automotive-grade glass front windshield enhances visibility and durability, while a rear back-up camera supports safer maneuvering in reverse. The CRU also features self-cancelling turn signals for confident signaling, an Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) to help pedestrians hear the vehicle at low speeds, and built-in rollover protection for increased occupant safety.
The CRU features a digital touchscreen display that keeps key vehicle information and diagnostics easily accessible. It also includes a USB port for convenient device charging and a built-in rear view camera for enhanced visibility while reversing. For added practicality, the vehicle offers lockable dash storage as well.
- Longer Battery Life: Lithium Ion batteries retain more energy over time when compared to flooded lead-acid. Specifically Lithium Ion battery life is at least 3X longer. A Lithium Ion battery typically takes 12 years to drop to 80% capacity.
- More Efficient Charging: Lithium Ion batteries charge up to 40% faster than the flooded lead-acid which means more time on the road and more peace of mind for adventure.
- Increased Safety and Reliability: Lithium-Ion batteries are individually encased and tested to applicable international standards to ensure peace of mind. Inventus Lithium batteries come with a 5 year warranty and the Trojan AGM batteries come with a 3 year warranty.
