The ROI of Club Car's Tempo Walk

Making Waves with Golfers in the Northeast

Tempo Walk, Club Car’s autonomous caddie has provided courses with increased revenue and an enhanced experience for golfers. Tempo Walk is an autonomous caddie that allows golfers to enjoy walking the course with a hands-free experience, GPS yardage and an integrated cooler, all while carrying your bag. Tempo Walk effortlessly follows your every step as you enjoy your round of golf.

Golf Course operators have been adding Tempo Walk to courses as an opportunity for increased revenue. According to the NGF, over 27% of all golf rounds in the United States are walked. Adding Tempo Walk is an opportunity to provide a new experience and boost revenue by offering the units for a small fee similar to a golf car.

WOODWAY COUNTRY CLUB

Founded in 1916 in Darien CT, Woodway Country Club is regularly ranked as one of the best courses in Connecticut by Golf Digest. Designed by Willie Park Jr., Woodway challenges golfers of all skill levels, mainly because it requires them to hit “all of the shots.”
Woodway purchased four Tempo Walk units in April and has placed an order for four additional units after the initial success.

“Since we have had the Tempo Walk units, I have had a member reserve them every day and most days twice a day,” said Michael Crawford, Head Professional at Woodway Country Club. “We have sent the units out over 1000 times from April to September, and I often have to tell members they cannot have one as they are already reserved.”

ASPETUCK VALLEY COUNTRY CLUB

Aspetuck Valley Country Club is another course with four more Tempo Walk units on the way after strong golfer demand and strong reception from golfers. Located in Weston, CT, Aspetuck Valley Country Club offers terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level.

“We ordered four units and immediately ordered four more,” said Jack Powers, Head Professional at Aspetuck Valley Country Club. “We don’t have tee times at AVCC, so members are showing up early to ensure they get a Tempo Walk.

METROPOLIS COUNTRY CLUB

Metropolis Country Club has eight Tempo Walk units and has seen very strong golfer reception with the units rented daily. Located in White Plains, NY, Metropolis Country Club was established in 1922. The original 18 hole golf course, designed by Herbert Strong, was later expanded when the noted golf architect A. W. Tillinghast redesigned the course.

“The Tempo Walk units we have at Metropolis have been a great addition to our golf program. Our membership prefers to walk versus riding a golf cart and the Tempo Walk units afford them the opportunity to do so. The eight Tempo Walk units we have go out twice daily. Our biggest challenge is not having enough of them for the membership.”

- Craig Thomas, PGA Head Professional at Metropolis Country Club

TEMPO WALK – A BUSINESS CASE

Tempo Walk is an easy addition to any course looking to capture revenue from walking golfers. The units provide a unique and fun way to enjoy golfing and have seen great interest once the units arrive.

With a minimal amount for usage Tempo Walk can pay for itself. Charging a nominal fee similar to a golf car, Tempo Walk can easily begin to increase profits. As seen below in typical economic scenarios, (Figure 1 & 2), with a $15 fee, each Tempo Walk unit needs to be rented six times a month to break even. Given customer demand and the examples above, this rental target is easily obtainable.
