Find the Right Club Car for You

Choosing the perfect vehicle should be exciting, not overwhelming. Whether you’re cruising the neighborhood, running errands, or gearing up for the golf course, Club Car offers a wide range of Personal Transportation Vehicles (PTVs) and Low-Speed Vehicles (LSVs) to fit your lifestyle.

This quick guide will help you explore your options.

FAQ Section

Street legal vehicles are low speed vehicles (LSVs) that have a minimum speed of 20 mph and maximum speed of 25 mph. Once registered, they can be legally driven (with a valid driver's license) on most roads with posted speed limits of 35 mph or less.

All LSVs must meet all U.S. Federal Safety Standards (FMVSS 500), which require a registered VIN number, automotive safety windshield glass, safety belts, turn signals, headlamps, brake lights, horn, mirrors, reflex reflectors, a parking brake and a rear view camera. They also must meet state and local laws which can include windshield wipers and warning beacons.

In addition to federal, local and state laws, the Society of Automotive Engineers created a voluntary industry standard for LSVs with SAEJ2358 LSV. This voluntary safety standard includes additional detailed requirements.

Club Car LSVs meet not only FMVSS 500 standards, but also fully comply with the more stringent automotive SAEJ2358 standards with the inclusion of Occupant Protective Structures on all cars.

LSV stands for Low Speed Vehicle, a federally approved street-legal vehicle classification under the U.S. Department of Transportation.

NEV stands for Neighborhood Electric Vehicle, a type of Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) designed for short, local trips on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or lower (up to 45 mph in some states).

Gas-powered vehicles are a great choice if you:

  • Plan to take longer rides
  • Live in an area without easy access to charging
  • Want the convenience of quick refueling

Electric vehicles deliver a quiet, smooth ride and are a more eco-friendly alternative to gas. They’re best for:

  • Neighborhood cruising and golf course driving
  • Eco-conscious drivers who want a lower carbon footprint
  • Cost-sensitive buyers who don’t mind regular battery care

Lithium technology represents the top tier of electric performance. They are best for:

  • Drivers who want the latest in battery technology
  • Frequent or long rides where range matters
  • Owners who prefer low-maintenance solutions and premium performance

A test drive is one of the best ways to feel the difference between vehicles and make the right choice for you.

Here are some suggestions for what to do:

  1. Get Comfortable
Adjust the seat, grab handles, and steering wheel if available.
Test legroom in all seating rows (especially if considering 4- or 6-passenger models).
Check storage spaces: dash compartments, under-seat storage, or rear cargo areas.

  1. Test the Ride Quality
Drive on different surfaces if possible (smooth pavement, gravel, slight hills).
Notice how the suspension absorbs bumps and how stable the ride feels.
Listen for quietness — this is especially important if comparing gas vs. electric.

  1. Check the Performance
Test acceleration from a stop — does it feel smooth and responsive?
Try hill climbing if available, especially for HP and Lithium models.
Practice braking: make sure the vehicle stops confidently and smoothly.
Test turning radius to see how easy it is to maneuver in tight spaces.

  1. Explore Features
Try out any technology features (back-up camera, lights, AVAS, speed modes).
Inspect customization details like seat materials, colors, and wheels.
If it’s an LSV, confirm street-legal safety features: seat belts, mirrors, and rollover protection.

  1. Think About Daily Use
Picture your typical drive: is it a quick trip around the neighborhood, a family ride, or a day on the golf course?
Ask yourself: Does this model feel practical for your everyday needs?
Bring along family or friends to check passenger comfort.

  1. Ask Questions
    Before finishing, ask the dealer:
    • About maintenance needs for gas, electric, or lithium models.
    • What accessories can be added (storage, canopies, wheels, etc.).
    • Warranty coverage and service options.

Tip: Take notes or even a short video of each test drive so you can compare later.

Club Car has a nationwide network of 400+ dealers, ready to assist wherever you are, with expert knowledge and industry-leading service and support. Here are some suggested questions:

  1. Which Club Car model is right for my lifestyle?
Dealers can walk you through whether a Personal Transportation Vehicle (PTV) or Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) is best. PTVs are ideal for golf courses and communities, while LSVs are designed for neighborhood roads that require street-legal compliance.

  1. Can I customize my Club Car?
Yes! You can choose from a wide range of colors, wheels, seats, and accessories. Dealers can show you customization options in the Build Your Own tool and on display vehicles.

  1. Are Club Car vehicles street legal?
Street-legal availability varies by state or region. Your dealer can explain local regulations and show you vehicles like the Onward LSV or CRU, which include safety features such as seat belts, back-up cameras, AVAS, and rollover protection.

  1. What should I know about maintenance and warranties?
Ask your dealer about routine service schedules, battery replacement timelines, and warranty coverage. Club Car vehicles come with dependable warranties, and many dealers also offer service packages for added peace of mind.

  1. How much does a Club Car cost, and are financing options available?
Pricing depends on the model, powertrain, and custom features. Dealers can provide detailed quotes, financing options, and any seasonal promotions to help fit your budget.

  1. Can I test drive before I buy?
Yes! Dealers encourage test drives so you can compare models side by side. Bring your family or friends along to check comfort, performance, and passenger space.

Lifted vs. Non-Lifted Suspension: Which Is Right for You?

When shopping for a personal golf cart, one of the key choices you’ll make is between a lifted and a non-lifted suspension. While non-lifted models are great for everyday use, a lifted suspension offers enhanced capability and premium appeal.

Lifted Suspension

  • Superior Ground Clearance – Perfect for tackling curbs, uneven driveways, trails, or hilly terrain.
  • Larger Wheels & Tires – Unlocks bigger tire options for extra grip, durability, and a bold custom look.
  • Premium Style – The elevated stance delivers a sportier, more rugged appearance that sets your cart apart.
  • SportDrive™ Suspension – Club Car's proprietary suspension maximizes stability and safety.
  • Versatility – Equally at home in your neighborhood or off the beaten path.
  • Long-Term Value – The rugged build and customization potential can help maintain resale appeal.

Best For: Buyers willing to spend more for stand-out style, performance, and versatility.

Non-Lifted Suspension

  • Smooth Ride – Designed for flat surfaces like streets, paths, and golf courses.
  • Smaller Wheels & Tires – Standard for golf
  • Classic Aesthetic – A timeless, streamlined look that blends into any setting.
  • Easy Entry & Exit – With a lower step height, non-lifted carts are ideal if you’re shorter, or simply prefer stepping in rather than stepping up.

Pro Tip

If budget is your main factor, non-lifted is a smart, practical choice. But if you want more — more presence, more capability, more customization — the lifted suspension is worth the extra investment.
